OVERVIEW
This safari explores the major parks and reserves of southern Tanzania, including game drives, walking safari and boat safaris in Nyerere National Park, game drives in Ruaha National Park, and additional wildlife experiences in Mikumi National Park. Enjoy this experience with an overnight stay in lodges.
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Selous NP
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and drive you to the Selous Game Reserve, with an estimated travel time of 5.5 hours. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a hot lunch at the lodge, where you’ll be staying for the next three nights. In the afternoon, you’ll embark on a game drive in the reserve, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 2: Selous National Park
Enjoy a full day of game viewing at the Selous Game Reserve, exploring its diverse landscapes, including woodland grasslands, dense thickets, and riverine forests, in open 4×4 vehicles. Common wildlife sightings include waterbuck, southern reedbuck, and bushbuck, along with rarer species like sable antelope, lion, and greater kudu. After breakfast, join an armed ranger for a walking safari, experiencing the sights, sounds, and scents of the reserve’s rich ecosystem. In the afternoon, take a boat safari along the Rufiji River, navigating its channels and lakes, surrounded by hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of bird species, while also spotting land mammals like giraffes and elephants.

Day 3: Selous National Park
After breakfast, embark on another full day game drive in Selous Game Reserve, known for attractions like the Rufiji River and Stiegler Canyon. The Park offers diverse experiences, including trekking safaris.

Day 4: Selous to Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, drive to Mikumi National Park with a picnic lunch, heading to Vuma Hill Camp, which offers views over the vast wilderness of the park. Mikumi, Tanzania’s third-largest national park, is known for its diverse and abundant wildlife, offering a great chance to see the “Big Five.” The Park, traversed by the Tanzam Highway between Morogoro and Iringa, is also a prime birding destination with over 400 recorded species. Dinner and overnight stay at Camp Bastian.

Day 5: Mikumi NP
After breakfast, drive to Ruaha National Park, renowned for its rare sable and roan antelopes and large herds of elephants. The Park, a transition zone for eastern and southern African flora and fauna, offers a unique wildlife experience. Enjoy lunch at the lodge, followed by an afternoon game drive. Ruaha River Lodge, perched on a rocky ridge with views of the great Ruaha River, provides accommodations. The Park offers fantastic game viewing in a serene and less crowded environment, making it a special destination.

Day 6: Ruaha National Park
Enjoy a full day of game viewing in Ruaha National Park, which is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including an estimated 10,000 elephants, making them the most prominent animals in the park. The Park also hosts nearly 500 bird species, and its river areas are populated by hippos, crocodiles, and various predators like lions, leopards, and hunting dogs. Other common sightings include waterbuck, impala, giraffe, warthog, eland, Grant’s gazelle, ostrich, and cheetah. In the evening you will return back to lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Ruaha National Park
After an early breakfast, drive to Mikumi National Park, which is part of the Selous Game Reserve ecosystem for animals like elephants, buffaloes, and zebras. The Park is known for its rare tree-climbing lions, as well as giraffes, elands, hartebeests, impalas, leopards, warthogs, wildebeests, and African wild dogs. After lunch at Vuma Hill Tented Camp, enjoy game viewing in the park, renowned for its diverse wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, kudu, wildebeest, and sable antelope. Predators in the park include lions, leopards, wild hunting dogs, and black-backed jackals, along with other species like crocodiles, monitor lizards, yellow baboons, and hippos.

Day 8: Transfer to Dar es Salaam
After breakfast, drive to Dar have lunch upon arrival and then transfer to the airport
